R H O D E I S L A N D

we are heading out tomorrow for rhode island to stay a week at my aunt’s beach house. mason can’t go because of football, so he’s staying here with mom.
last august, i had the chance to go by myself. i stayed at my aunt’s beach house and had one of the most relaxing weeks of my life. every morning, i woke up when i wanted to, hopped on my bike and rode wherever i felt like. i hung out near pt. judith lighthouse and watched the surfers ride the waves. one afternoon, i spent two hours just watching and taking pictures of an elegant egret in a freshwater pond. i spent a lot of time down by the huge fishing pier at galilee and watched the boats go in and out of the bay. i loved seeing the fresh catch of the day and talking to the fishermen. i took a ferry to block island and rode my bike around its perimeter. i took evening walks along the beach and witnessed some of the most spectacular sunsets i’ve ever seen (the photo above is one of the more dramatic ones). i ate fresh seafood by the ocean, while listening to live jazz bands. i bought fresh lobster right off the boat and ate it boiled with fresh corn and tomatoes, along with homemade chowder. a truly wonderful time.
i doubt this coming week will be as relaxing (with the kids) but i know we’ll have a blast. i can’t wait for the guys to witness those sunsets and taste that seafood and see the surfers and ride the ferry and see newport mansions and see all the lighthouses. i’ll let you know how it goes.
