i read james thurber's short story - the secret life of walter mitty - when i was in 8th grade and was relieved to know i wasn't the only one who lived in alternate realities. even though it was a work of fiction, the story's details brought me strange comfort. when i wrote about this in my english journal, my nosy teacher replied in red pen! , "please see me".
after class she had a pained look of concern on her face so i told her i was just kidding and nipped what probably would have been a big thorny ordeal in the bud.
