i know why the caged bird sings

kim montavon and I were so blessed to hear maya angelou speak at the ohio theatre in columbus this evening.
dr. angelou was inspiring, to say the least.
she spoke of "rainbows in the clouds" and how powerful perspective truly is.
she made us laugh and cry at the same time!
she said so many things that i never want to forget.....here's one of them -

Courage is the most important of all the virtues,
because without courage you can't practice any other virtue consistently.
You can practice any virtue erratically,
but nothing consistently without courage.

i read her poetic autobiography - "i know why the caged bird sings" while in high school. it is an emotionally charged book that made me face my own cages. i strongly identified with some of this poet's history and she gave me hope for liberation.

kim and i were both so glad we went. we both feel revived to be rainbows in somebody's clouds...
