new perspective

perspective is everything.
when i take pictures, i try to capture my subject in the right light, which usually requires me to view it from all heights and angles. besides looking for optimal light, i try to slough off preconceived notions about how i have viewed the subject before. i attempt to see the subject as if i am seeing it for the first time...easier said than done.

when taking in a scene or subject, it is AMAZING how much difference a few feet can make. i snap the shutter and get a good image. i move three feet to my right, step up on a rock, snap the shutter.....and get an EXCELLENT image.

there are these photographic rules - strategies for visual communication - but i try to forget them...i try to interpret through my own mind, eyes, creativity.

i want my photograph to serve, not as an end to itself, but as a bridge to the world around me.

and as always - everything i said above is also true of life in general. i love metaphors.
