happy anniversary baby

today is our 20 year anniversary. steven and i were married on 7/11/87. we met at marshall university in huntington, west virginia in 1985. we saw each other the first day of the semester at a dormitory floor meeting. after that, he knocked on my door and asked to borrow a pencil!!! that was the best excuse he could come up with. we immediately became friends.
since i was still dating my high school sweetheart at the time, steve and i were only friends, best friends in fact, for about a year (although he wanted it to be more than that). we would do everything together and he made me laugh so hard that i wet my pants! he would wait for me outside my college classes with coffee in hand. he signed up for a folk dance class i had to take just so he could be my partner. but the woman instructor took a liking to steve and decided to keep him as her partner!!! isn't that so funny?! he took an entire semester of folk dancing and didn't even get to dance with me!!
when i first met steve, he had a 4.0 in pre-law and had ambitions to be a lawyer, perhaps even a senator. meeting me changed all that. i convinced him to cut classes and take me to ritter park or to the huntington mall. i urged him to carpe diem - seize the day - which he did - and alas got his first 'B'.
one day while driving around with one of my volleyball friends, God pulled me out of Plato's cave and i truly saw the light - and standing in that light was steven, the man of my dreams. after that, steven and i quickly ditched the friendship thing and ventured into a passionate love affair that has persisted with it's ups and downs and after three sons, for 20 years.

20 years ago, we thought we may be missionaries to the Ivory Coast of Africa - but God had a plan for us to do His work in waverly, ohio. we didn't know it then, but when we look in hindsight, we can connect the dots that led us to where we are today.
i love steven so much. i am the luckiest girl in the world.
